BK’s Book-Marks – The Misadventures of Max Crumbly 1: Locker Hero

I just returned home from sleep away camp and before I left, I read The Misadventures of Max Crumbly 1: Locker Hero by Rachel Renée Russell.  Here are the answers to Mom’s four questions.

What is the book about?

Max C. keeps getting thrown into his locker by Thug Thurston, the school bully.  He gets stuck on Friday when there is a 3 day weekend.  He has to find his way out, defeat burglars and keep his dad’s comic book safe.  Can he do that all in one weekend with the help from his friend Erin?  Read the Misadventures of Max Crumbly: Locker Hero to find out!

What is your favorite part?

My favorite part was when Erin let him out of his locker and she is so surprised to see him in there.

Anything in the book that parents should know about?

Yes.  There is a burglary and bullys.

Why do you think other kids should read this book?

It is really funny and it has these weird, handwritten raps(it is a cool song).

BK’s Book-Marks – Smile

I have something to share with you.

I recently read Smile by Raina Telgemeier.  Here are the answers to Mom’s four questions.

What is the book about?

A 6th grader named Raina fell and severely injured her two top front teeth. She had to go through braces, headgear, and a retainer with fake teeth. It goes from middle school to high school. She also has to deal with boy drama, a huge earthquake, and friends who are not the best of friends. Can she finally smile with all of this drama going on? Read Smile to find out!

What is your favorite part?

I liked her reaction when she got pantsed in the courtyard. It was her standing up for herself and this is a big life lesson.

Anything in the book that parents should know about? 

Hey parents! In one part they play spin the bottle, which is gross! So I would advise that no one under 8 should read it. P.S. 8-year olds can read it.

Why do you think other kids should read this book?

I like this book because it relates to me.   I have had problems similar to her like I have braces, some not-so-nice friends and I learned that I should try new things.  For example, I am trying to learn how to play the ukelele.

BK’s Book-Marks – Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library

I recently read Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein.  Here are the answers to Mom’s four questions.

What is the book about?

There is a new library opening and a contest is announced that 12 kids will be selected to explore the library before it opens on an overnight retreat. The way to be selected is to write an essay about what they are looking forward to seeing at the library. The kids are chosen, they go to the library, play games and then they go to sleep. When they wake up and try to leave, they find the door locked. Can they escape? Read Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s library to find out!

What is your favorite part?

My favorite part was when Mr. Lemoncello said he did not know how to escape. He said the head librarian designed the game as his birthday present.

Anything in the book that parents should know about?

There are a lot of bad words like stupid and some of the kids lie. That is what you should know.

Why do you think other kids should read this book?

The riddles in it keep people’s attention. There are different challenges and puzzles that the kids have to solve and they talk about other books that kids read like Harry Potter.

My Day to Read at School

I have something to share with you.

The first day of school is almost here and the emails will start coming from the room parents.  My Favorite day of school is when I am signed up to read to my daughter’s class.  I try to choose books that allows me to interact with the class and ask questions to the other kids.  Add these two to your list for when the sign up sheet gets sent out to your class!
