The Skin I sleep In

I have something to share with you.

I was pretty bad in my twenties with going to bed with makeup on.  I would use one of the Oil of Olay disposable facial cloths to remove makeup but as I got closer to 35 and 40, I made a much bigger effort to take care of my skin.  I use my Clarisonic 5-6 nights out of the week(1 or 2 nights is for ExfoliKate) and I want to make sure I am using my night products on clean skin(after all, they can be pretty pricey depending on what you use).

My routine at night is simple.  Wash my face with purity and the Clarisonic and then finish with two products, Kate Somerville RetAsphere (this is my retinol product) and Boots Night cream, a super affordable moisturizing night cream.  The retinol is not too strong in the RetAsphere and I keep reading you need it as you near your 40’s.  The night cream is popular overseas and available at Target (translation- super affordable and goes on sale!).  Now that I am in my 40’s, I find myself having less breakouts as long as I follow this easy routine regardless of whether I am at home or on the road.

My Favorite Things – Clarisonic

I have something to share with you.

I mentioned during a previous post that I was finally focusing on skincare thanks to a random viewing of QVC.  I made “friends” with a beauty consultant at Nordstrom and started receiving advice on products to use with my skin type, bringing home many samples to see if I truly liked them before spending the sometimes outrageous amount of money to make these purchases.  After almost a year of working with her, I asked about the Clarisonic.  Yes, I saw it on QVC but I had seen it in the stores and started to get curious.

The beauty consultant could not stop raving about this product.  She said she uses it daily, in the shower, and could not live without it.  She described it as feeling like you had a facial every day.  Really?  For $150 I could get my skin super clean and treat myself to a daily facial.  Hmmm……I guess I should ask some friends what they knew about this sensational product.

I asked a friend at work and she said it was absolutely wonderful.  I asked a mom friend and she had one too.  Did it really work?  They both said yes.  So, back to Nordstrom I went during their anniversary sale and bought the Mia 2 with a couple Kate Somerville products that I was wanting to try out.

Five months later – I am a huge FAN!  I use it every night unless I am doing a special skin “treatment” (ExfoliKate) and I bring this with me on business trips since it came with a special travel case.  If you don’t have one, put it on your wishlist for the holiday season!

My Favorite Things – ExfoliKate

I have something to share with you.

It’s something I really look forward to.  And it’s superfast.  Just me, five minutes and I go to bed feeling relaxed.  What am I talking about….Spa Night in my house.

exk_carton_tubeI have been a lot more focused on skincare since I am close to 40 (and I will admit, I am starting to get excited about turning 40!)  ExfoliKate is one of my new favorite products. Wash your face, then apply Exfolikate for up to two minutes and wash off.  That easy.  It makes my skin glow and it’s like I just had a thirty minute treatment that I didn’t have to pay a ton of money for.  If you are not familiar with Kate Somerville, she has this great line of products that I have been “experimenting” with over the past few months.  In select locations of Nordstrom, you can visit the Kate Somerville beauty counter and get a complimentary DermalQuench treatment in store if you purchase your products from them.

That’s one of my favorite things…what are yours?

QVC is Educational

I have something to share with you.

I am 39 years old.  Soon to be 40.  I finally started paying a bit more attention to my skin a few years back and looked at all the fashion magazines to figure out what are the best products for me to use.  I bought a bunch of products and after the first few weeks of being diligent, I saw some results.  And then I got lazy.  Life got in the way and spending an extra 10 minutes in the morning and at night just was too much work.

And then one Saturday morning I let my daughter play with the television remote while I was folding laundry in my bedroom.    I figured one of the Disney channels would be on for the next two hours and I would get some chores done around the house.  But that was not the case.  She turned on QVC.

I have never watched QVC.  You hear jokes about women who stay up all night and shop via phone at 3am.  My very incorrect assumption that I had no use for the items they offered was very wrong.  My daughter turned on QVC during one of their beauty segments and wow, did I learn a lot.

purityduoThey have some shows that feature all different types of skincare and makeup.  They have a solid hour devoted to certain lines of product like Philosophy and Kate Somerville.  They highlight certain products from each brand, do product demos(the educational part) and of course, offer them at special “discounted” rates.  Now I didn’t actually buy anything that day but will admit that if I have a few minutes and one of the beauty segments are on air, I will watch.

And watching that show led me to get a few samples of some products that I now use everyday regardless of how busy life may be.  Thanks QVC- one item I did purchase was a super size duo of a face cleanser that I love and the price could not be beat at any retail store!
