The Must Have shirt in your closet

I have something to share with you.

We all have that one shirt in our closet that we grab to wear to work when we are running late, need to throw something on for a quick dinner out or just something to wear to complete the never-ending to-do list.  I now have three of them and yes, they are all the same shirt.

Head to Nordstrom and buy the Pleione Mixed Media V-Neck Tunic.  It’s only $58 (and some colors are less) and comes in numerous colors.  It is great for spring since the sleeves button up and can be layered with a cami underneath or with a cardigan on top.  I have burgundy, black and a shade of orange…and wear at least one of them every week!

Recently I posted about Stitch Fix, a service made up of online personal stylists that send items specifically for you based on all of your own style preferences.  I have a love for jewelry so I thought I would share another great shopping option.  Have you heard of Stella & Dot?  Of course you have.

“Hmmmm, how to review Stella & Dot??? Love? Yup, pretty much. When my friend Kelli introduced me to S&D, I was kind of like ‘shoot, another crazy jewelry company that I’ll have to pretend to think is awesome.’ Oh, so wrong! I adore their simple designs and charms – they’re prefect for me! I don’t wear a ton of jewelry, mainly just simple earrings and necklaces. Kelli showed me how to mix up charms and add another necklace here and there that pulled things together really well for me! I’ve got a few of S&D’s statement pieces that I’m getting braver with too… Again, thanks to Kelli for that! We would see each other and she would have some gorgeous necklace or earrings on with jeans and a t-shirt and would look amazing! I never would have thought to do that! Love the ideas! At the last party I had, Kelli swept in, set up, added a necklace to what I had on and the party took off from there! Her no pressure attitude is the BEST! It makes things more like just hanging out with your favorite women and oh, look, sparkly fun things to try on! And Kel’s giveaways?! So awesome. It’s ALWAYS something I’m dying to win. I’m not sure how she does it. But, really, she’s the best!”

stella_necklaceMY EXPERIENCE:  I love shopping(as long as someone reviews my purchases after I buy but before I wear)but having a friend with me to give me their honest opinion is so much more helpful.  I recently attended a party thanks to my friend Kelli.  She has been a Stella & Dot stylist for a few years and I never knew. After giving me the scoop at a playdate with our daughters, she sent me a catalog and had a party a few weeks later.  I walked in and started browsing.  She has all the jewelry set up to try on and she was able to suggest certain items, show me how some pieces were reversible or could be added/removed to change the look and share her opinion on how things looked on me.  How easy is that!!   PLUS they offer jewelry for girls! Yes, really cute necklaces and bracelets and a few that are similar to “mom” pieces.  Thirty minutes later, I had a new pair of earrings picked out(they are reversible) and ordered a necklace that has three different chains and can be worn over 30 different ways(see picture)!  And yes, my daughter left with an order of her own – a cute necklace with the Eiffel Tower and two other charms.

In Her Opinion: Stitch Fix

I posted a while back that I am not the expert when it comes to fashion.  Getting dressed for date night stresses me out since I am more on the conservative side and buy so many items for work.  I was at dinner one night and joked with the ladies about my post and how my closet brings me stress – not due to organization(I have that covered) but because I have outdated and boring clothes.  Luckily, I was sitting with my friend Julie who uses Stitch Fix and with Jessica who is a Stitch Fix stylist.  I think based on the opinion of the ladies below, I need to sign up ASAP.

“I used to love to shop but life got in the way with two kids, a dog, a cat, a beta fish (what was I thinking!), and both me and my husband working full-time.  I don’t have the time or desire anymore to go to the mall and peruse for hours much less keep up with the current trends.  I thought I’d give Stitch Fix a try based on a friends recommendation.  I didn’t have really high hopes but thought what do I have to lose as you can return everything if you don’t like it.  I filled out the form which asks you many questions trying to get an understanding of your style.  I put in a few requests in the note section about wanting a bathing suit cover up for an upcoming beach trip, some shirts to wear with shorts, and some cute tops to wear for work.  When I got my first Fix it was really fun to get a box of goodies to try on.  I felt like a kid at Christmas time as its rare these days to get fun mail and not a bill to pay!  You get five items in a Fix and I was really pleasantly surprised that I liked all but one.  I did get a really cute tunic that can be worn as a bathing suit cover up and also a shirt.  I got two cute shirts to wear with shorts and one really unique top to wear to work.  The only item I didn’t keep was a maxi dress that I actually liked but just didn’t fit me right.  All in all I would recommend Stitch Fix!  It’s a huge time saver for a busy mom who doesn’t have time to shop and keep up with trends anymore.”

“I have had success –  maybe a little too much!  I think it depends on how much time you put in to setting up your profile and how much info you give them when you reject something. I really need Stitch Fix because I have NO TIME to shop but I have to look put together for work. My body has also changed over the years so I was really specific on my needs.  The other thing is the more you do it, the better it gets because the stylist gets to know you.  It’s totally addictive. Originally I didn’t sign up for a recurring order but I think I will to receive a monthly box.  I love to freshen up my wardrobe options.”

My Favorite Things- Ann Taylor Denim

I have something to share with you.

A great pair of jeans can be hard to find. I have a few “my tush looks great and my legs look slim” jeans that are great for date night.  I have my “super comfortable, baggy but not sexy” jeans that I can wear to a kiddo soccer game or to the food store.  And I have a pair that are perfect for knee-high boots or my favorite flats.  And most of them cost over $150/pair. Why can’t I just find a super comfortable, stretchy but not baggy jean that will work with all my shoes and for both work and life?  Well, I found them and didn’t have to spend a fortune.

anntaylorjeanAnn Taylor has some great denim and I bought two pairs, one skinny and one boot cut, both the modern cut.  No altering needed, they have the right amount of stretch AND they are a darker jean so they work with everything.  My skinnies fit perfect with flats or my knee-high or mid-calf boots and the boot cut fit great with my lower boots and other shoes(even sneakers).  They go with me on vacation, on business trips and if I do need another pair, I would be happy to spend the money(under $100 and on sale all the time).  Three other women in my office have already bought them – I think we have a winner!
