My Best Friend in the Kitchen

I have something to share with you.

I have posted how much I love my slow cooker and sadly, we recently broke up. The reasons – “It” wasn’t warm to me, took way too long to get things done and after numerous attempts I had to trade up.

Let me introduce you to my new best friend in my kitchen. The Cuisinart 3-In-1 Cook Central 6-Quart Multi-Cooker.  slowcookerIt is a Slow Cooker, and a steamer AND it can brown and saute.  Yes, it does all of these things which means less pots to cook in, less pots to clean and less time in the kitchen.  Plus I bought it on Amazon and with Prime I had it the next day!

What have we made?  Tonight we are having ribs, last week we had korean beef and the week before that we had pot roast.  Prep is easy and dinner is ready when I walk in the door!

Cooking Tips from Facebook Recommended Pages

I have something to share with you.

I recently found a bunch of “recommended” pages for me on Facebook, probably based on what I search on Google and the “cookies” on my computer(future post on how to find your recommended pages). A few of them were Bon Appetit, Cooking Channel, Food Network and Cooking Light, all FB pages for those magazines and tv networks featuring recipes, cooking tips and other food related content.  I often look online for recipes but never spent the time to watch the videos posted.  I clicked on a few of these recommended pages to Like/Follow them and now I get content on my page that is super helpful in the kitchen.   Plus many of them have short videos with “How-To” content.  Here are some of my favorites that are super easy and super helpful!

My Favorite Things: Houston’s

I have something to share with you.

If you have read my other posts, I think you know I am not really a fan of national chain restaurants.  The menu may be designed by chefs but on any given night, they do not have the freedom to create.  But there is one exception to my “national” chain rule and they have lots of options due to having many different restaurants in various parts of the country.  Houston’s is the exception.  I love that anytime I visit Houston’s, both the service and the food are consistently fantastic. I have my favorites when I visit, it just depends on the mood I am in.  Crab Cakes, the Ahi Tuna(either the entrée or the salad), the ribs, the grilled artichoke…….I could go on.  And my husband loves their food and he’s happy to sit at the bar and have a small bite at the end of a night if we are not ready to go home.  It’s even kid-friendly.

I think to a recent visit for my husband’s birthday.  They brought out the apple dessert with one candle.  No singing(my husband is not a fan), no big group of people, just a candle and a quick Happy Birthday and we were left to enjoy.  I don’t think I have ever left this restaurant disappointed.  Now if only I could get a peek of their spinach dip recipe, I would be the happiest lady in town!

My Favorite Things: Kent Rathbun Steak & Chop Garlic Salt

I have something to share with you.

Do I love cooking?  YES.  Am I the best cook?  NO.  Do I try really hard?  YES.  Does my husband always tell me I underseason EVERYTHING?  Sadly, YES.

Kent-Rathbun-Elements-garlic-salt-500x500My best secret….Kent Rathbun Steak & Chop Garlic Salt.  I frequent Central Market here in Dallas and last year they did a steak tasting using Kent Rathbun Elements products. The steak was awesome…and now it is my go-to seasoning!  I always use this on steak but I now use this on fish.  Bake or grill a piece of salmon with the salt and add dill, ground mustard and cajun seasoning – DELISH!  Looking for something to make you look like a great chef……try the salt!!!
