On the Road Eats: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I have something to share with you.

We were headed to Fort Lauderdale for a family wedding.  I knew we would only have one lunch, one breakfast and one night for dinner on our own so I didn’t do too much research on where to eat.  I found a “hole in the wall” place on the way to the hotel that had good Yelp reviews and then asked the concierge at the Ritz for a dinner recommendation.  The second half of the trip I was headed to Delray Beach and after my experience in Fort Lauderdale, I did my homework.

Southport Raw Bar
I will admit that I enjoyed the soup.  But that was it.  The tacos were, well, not great.  I know I live in Texas and have great options but I have visited plenty of other cities and had great tacos.  The oysters – had 2 and passed them to my husband and brother-in-law. The soup though – a mix of Conch Chowder and New England Clam Chowder, it was good.   That’s all I have for this spot.

Indigo
I thought asking the concierge would be the smart move.  But I should have asked my husband’s cousin for a recommendation instead.  He had never even heard of this spot and he lived three blocks away(and he knows all of the hot spots in town).  The food at Indigo was good….but not what I was hoping for.  I mentioned I wanted something that was kid friendly but good for a foodie.  The place was almost empty.  There was a man singing out front so we dined oustside at the farthest table from him.  I ordered the Lemon Crusted Salmon and my husband ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Pot Pie.  My daughter had plain pasta with cheese.  Again, the food was good but next time my first call with be to “Cousin Cool”.

Beauty & The Feast
We drove by this spot on the way home from a wedding event and I asked about it.  The “younger” people (I joke as they are in their 30’s) said it was a good spot.  So I checked the breakfast menu and they had chicken and waffles on the menu.  I had to go try it. Presentation was great but unfortunately the flavors were not as fabulous as I hoped.  Not terrible by any means but I think I should have ordered french toast(like my husband) or pancakes(like my daughter)….  Or maybe I should have ordered lunch or dinner for breakfast since that part of the menu was more interesting to me!

Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale

I love a Ritz Carlton because of the service.  Even though they were going through a renovation, we had a great time at their pool and the wedding we attended was wonderful(plus an amazing band really does make the wedding).  It’s not a resort but more of a city hotel right across from the beach.  Check this one off my list – which Ritz can I visit next?

My second post from this trip is Delray Beach, Florida.  Should be posted in the next week or so!
