On the Road Eats: Kansas City

I have something to share with you.

I love Kansas City.  In addition to having super nice clients, there is lots to do and great food to eat!

Charisse
I had a meeting downtown and there was a newer french bistro right next door to my client.  It was a super cold day so French onion soup and a hearty beef bourguignon were the perfect choice.  I heard they have a great happy hour too!

Avenues Bistro and L’Cove Lounge

I decided to eat on the earlier side and went to Avenues Bistro for happy hour.  I was staying in Country Club Plaza and Brookside was only a few minutes away by car.  The happy hour menu is great because you can have a full dinner for a very affordable price(think about your Per Diem).  I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Dates and the Petit Filet Steak.  If in Brookside, there are some other great options too!

The Raphael Hotel and Chaz on the Plaza
IMG_9707I love this hotel and the location is great.  It’s part of the Autograph collection and easy to walk to shops and restaurants in the Plaza.  Plus as a Marriott Elite, I received a complimentary breakfast at Chaz. Lobster Benedict…..had to try it but turns out it was not my thing.  Not that it was bad, but the combination of lobster, eggs, hollandaise and fried green tomatoes just didn’t work for me so early in the morning.

WOW.  WOW – WOW- WOW!  I loved this place.  I have had some good BBQ in Kansas City but this was fantastic.  National barbeque champion Rob MageeI has opened a restaurant and it was packed.  I ordered a combo plate with brisket and pulled pork, both with amazing flavor.  I ordered mac and cheese and the white bean cassoulet (white beans, sausage, onion, tomato and thyme). Take me back here…SOON.
